New to church?

Welcome! Whether you've just moved to the Barming area, or have lived here all your life,
we want you to know just how welcome you will be at your parish church and we hope the information below helps.

Covid-19: Like everyone, we are working our way out of the pandemic situation, so some of the following information may change. At present you will be very welcome to attend church in person. Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information.

Key information about the church...

Where and when does the church meet?
Our Church meets every Sunday at 10:00am. If you are coming in person, aim to arrive at least
10 minutes early to ensure you're comfortable and in time for the service to start.

We meet at:

St. Margarets Parish Church
Church Lane
Barming
ME16 9HA

You can see a map on our Contact page.

Where do I park?
There is a large car park next to the entrance of the church and parking is free.

What should I expect when I visit the church?
You will receive a very warm welcome particularly from the welcomers who will be able to answer your questions and help you find a seat. We try to provide something for everyone, so within the middle Anglican tradition we have a range of services from the more traditional with organ and robed choir through to our non-liturgical Informal service of the word, with worship band and contemporary songs. The main service on Sundays at 10am includes singing (hymns and Christian songs), Bible reading(s), a sermon or talk and some prayers. On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, the service includes Holy Communion, with the sharing of bread and wine (currently this is subject to changes due to Covid) around the table, to remember Jesus as he asked us to. At the 10am service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, we still follow a pattern, but there is no Communion in the service.

Tea, coffee and biscuits (quite often cake!) are served after the service when there is plenty of time to meet people and ask more questions (we hope to reintroduce this soon!)

What happens to the children at church?
During the pandemic it has not been possible to provide activities in church for children and young people, mainly because of the restriction on numbers and movement in the building. However, during lockdown Children's Messy Church and Sunday Club has continued to run and has been a great success for both children and their families. We are a very family friendly church and encourage children to be themselves - even if that is being noisy! We do have an area at the front of the church by the bell tower, that is a quieter area if you need it for you and your child - this also has toilet facilities.

Is there a dress code?
No! Please just be yourself and come dressed as you are comfortable.

How can I help my church?

We are always looking for people that can offer help during services and with other tasks. If you would like to help with readings, cleaning, sound desk, side people  - please let us know!

Will I have to join in?
Not at all. You can simply observe or participate as much as feels comfortable for you.
