Families Group
Review of 2008
This was another good year for the group which has again seen the number of families turning up for the events increasing.
Regrettably there was not a Treasure hunt this year due to availability of the organisation team.
The first event was the annual barbecue, which is open to anyone (not just families) that has become a firm favourite with the children, and the parents. As usual the weather was glorious.
The children enjoyed a sweetie treasure hunt, which was followed by some hotly contested games between the children, parents and church members through out the afternoon. In between we all found time to burn our food on the traditional BBQ. Once again the weather, the setting (thank you to Justina) and the friends, made this the perfect day.
The second event was the Lantern walk in December. Due to the numbers that turned up last year we erected a marquee to give us more room. Again the event was very well supported and we had 80+ people at Church Cross House. Children made lanterns and Christmas decorations, including paper chains.
The lanterns were lit outside Church Cross House and we were joined by other church members with lanterns for a procession to the church. In the church we all congregated to sing some carols and music was provided by the excellent St Margaret’s Brass Band. The Christmas tree was decorated by the children. The event closed with mince pies and mulled wine (hot juice for the children). This was a fun event and it was great to see a packed church, and was a really good way to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.
